Jon Rahm Clinches First Individual Title in LIV Golf with Thrilling Finish
Jon Rahm has secured his first individual title in LIV Golf, delivering a nail-biting one-stroke victory that saw him finish at 13 under par. The Spanish golfer demonstrated remarkable consistency and poise, concluding the tournament with rounds of 63, 70, and 67.
Rahm's final round was a masterclass in perseverance and skill. He began the day strong, scoring 2 under on the front nine. As he transitioned to the back nine, Rahm turned up the heat with three birdies in the first four holes, setting the stage for his dramatic win. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing; a three-putt bogey on the par-3 17th hole threatened to derail his momentum.
The competition was fierce, with Rahm narrowly defeating Tyrrell Hatton, Joaquin Niemann, and Cameron Smith. Hatton, in particular, came within inches of forcing a playoff, missing a crucial 6-foot putt on the 18th green.
Reflecting on his victory, Rahm shared his emotional journey: "It's just emotional, you know, it hasn't been the easiest for our family. Kelly and I have gone through quite a bit … and to get this one done — she did tell me our son Kepa said to bring a trophy from this stretch of golf. I started to believe it was going to happen at one point today, maybe not in the last 20 minutes, but at least I can look in the camera and say I am bringing one home for them."
Rahm's triumph is particularly poignant given his recent struggles. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship and had to withdraw before the U.S. Open in 2024. Despite these setbacks, Rahm has accumulated nine straight top-10 finishes to start his LIV Golf career, showcasing his resilience and determination.
Expressing his relief and joy, Rahm noted, "Finally get one done. You never want to get those feelings to go on for too long and to get over that hump feels quite incredible. It's been a fantastic week and a fantastic year and (I'm) just relieved that it happened."
The team competition also witnessed a thrilling conclusion, with Legion XIII emerging victorious by three strokes over Ripper GC. Caleb Surratt and Kieran Vincent played pivotal roles in securing the win for Legion XIII.
Rahm's focus now shifts to representing Spain in the upcoming Olympics at Le Golf National, where he aims to compete alongside David Puig. His aspirations are clear: "I think that walk down 18 or down the back nine would have been a little bit harder had I not gotten a win, but getting over the hump and getting it done I think is going to give me a little extra confidence if I put myself in a good position on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to sharing the week with David. It's going to be fantastic, and hopefully, one of us can leave with the gold."
In addition to his recent win, Rahm also finished T7 at Royal Troon, continuing to solidify his standing in the golfing world. His journey through the tournament, marked by highs and lows, underscores the unpredictable and exciting nature of golf.
Jon Rahm's career is a testament to his skill, mental fortitude, and unwavering passion for the game. As he continues to compete at the highest level, fans and fellow competitors alike will undoubtedly be keen to see what the future holds for this exceptional golfer.
