Jason Wright to Transition to Senior Adviser Role Following 2024 Season

Jason Wright, the celebrated president of the Washington Commanders, will transition from his current role following the conclusion of the 2024 season. Wright, who has been instrumental in guiding the franchise through periods of significant change and challenge, will assume a new position as a senior adviser, with a primary focus on securing the completion of the Commanders' new stadium deal.

Wright took the helm of the organization in 2020, at a time when the team was still known as the Washington Football Team. His leadership saw the team through a significant rebranding effort in 2022, emerging as the Washington Commanders. Under Wright's stewardship, the franchise not only navigated a complex transformation but also achieved notable milestones that have set a positive trajectory for the future.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years. Together with an amazing team of professionals, we have taken this franchise through a period of immense challenge and uncertainty and have transformed it. We've set the table for an incredibly bright future under Josh's leadership," Wright stated, reflecting on his tenure.

During his time with the Commanders, the organization underwent a change in ownership, with Dan Snyder selling the franchise to Josh Harris. Despite these seismic shifts within the boardroom, Wright maintained a steady hand on the tiller, fostering growth and development both on and off the field. His efforts have been instrumental in welcoming record numbers of fans back into the stadium, enhancing fan experience, re-engaging corporate partners, and reconnecting with the local community.

Wright also remarked on the cultural shifts he has implemented, emphasizing that "most importantly, we re-established a culture of respect in this organization."

Jason Wright's tenure is notable for several groundbreaking accomplishments. He is the first Black president of an NFL team and only the fourth former player to assume the position of president within the league. Despite these notable achievements, Wright remains committed to his current responsibilities and the betterment of the franchise. "Given all those accomplishments, that's why I am proud to announce I will remain with the team throughout the 2024-2025 season, with the same responsibilities. In particular, I look forward to helping the organization complete its new stadium deal," Wright asserted.

Looking ahead, Wright is poised to continue his influence within the NFL. Despite his impending transition, his achievements have not gone unnoticed, as he has emerged as a finalist for the position of president with the Green Bay Packers. Such recognition speaks volumes about his capabilities and the respect he commands within the league.

In his departure announcement, Wright conveyed a heartfelt thanks to his colleagues and the broader Commanders community: "This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity. I'm extremely grateful to my Commanders colleagues, our fans, and this community for all that we have accomplished these past four years, and am looking forward to the start of a very successful season for the Burgundy and Gold."

As Wright prepares to embark on the next chapter of his career, his enduring legacy with the Commanders will be marked by his transformative leadership during an era of rebirth and renewed promise for the franchise. The foundation he has laid will undoubtedly support continued progress and success under Josh Harris' ownership.
