The New York Giants are making tangible strides toward their playoff aspirations, and one player emerging as a vital component in this quest is second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt. Though still in the early stages of his NFL career, Hyatt is demonstrating why he was a third-round pick out of Tennessee, using both his athleticism and work ethic to make a significant impact.
Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, one of Hyatt’s primary challenges has been maintaining and gaining weight to withstand the rigors of a full NFL season. “It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating,” Hyatt shared.
To tackle this challenge, Hyatt has made unique adjustments to his diet. "PB&J's was one of my biggest things because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake."
Impact on the Field
Hyatt’s dedication off the field has translated into key performances on it. In Week 2 of the 2023 season, Hyatt’s 58-yard reception was instrumental in the Giants' narrow three-point victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Making crucial plays in high-stakes moments has become a hallmark of his budding career.
The standout moments continued in Week 7, where Hyatt recorded two catches for 75 yards, contributing significantly to New York’s 14-7 win over the Washington Commanders. Hyatt's ability to create explosive plays has injected a much-needed spark into the Giants' offense.
Perhaps the most telling sign of his development came in Week 12 when Hyatt notched his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. His performance was vital in the Giants' tight victory over the New England Patriots, showcasing his capacity to deliver when his team needs it most.
Eyes on the Playoffs
As the Giants look ahead, Hyatt's aspirations extend beyond personal achievements. "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," Hyatt stated.
With such determination and focus, Jalin Hyatt is proving to be more than just a promising talent. His commitment to improving his physical condition and his knack for making pivotal plays underscore why he's becoming an indispensable part of the Giants' playoff push.
